Returning $2.2m – Is it Honesty or Stupidity?

by The Apollo Kid - This Post has had

Are you following me?  Look at this …

ONSLOW COUNTY, N.C. – 17-year-old Jacquelyn Lockard went to a Marine Federal Credit Union ATM Feb. 12 to get some money when she saw there was $2.2 million in her account.

“I looked at my receipt and I realized there as a lot of digits there that didn’t belong to me,” she said. “It was pretty insane.”

Yes, that is insane, I would poo myself with joy if I found this on my bank receipt.

Lockard and her father called the credit union to report the mistake.

WTF?!  Jacquelyn NO!!

Craig Chamberlin, the credit union president, said they got a large direct deposit from the IRS, and when a worker went to put in the amount manually, the employee put in Lockard’s social security number instead.

“It was just an accident. The only people who don’t make mistakes are the ones who aren’t doing anything,” Chamberlin said. “Their honesty is to be applauded. And do you think most people would do that in the same situation? I hope so.”

“The only people who don’t make mistakes are the ones who aren’t doing anything?” - see this is why this bank will continue to mess up peoples accounts, because they confuse careless productivity with accurate productivity.

Lockard said she knows it was the right thing to do, but still, she can think of a few ways she could have spent the money.

“My sister’s in college. I would have finished her college for her and my aunt and uncle always talk about a house in Maryland they want, so I would have gotten that,” she said. “And I really thought about myself later, but my family came first.”

Translation = “I’m so freaking dumb, I should’ve never listened to my dad. Now my sister will have to continue turning tricks to pay for college and my aunt and uncle will continue to live in that card board box near downtown”

Lockard isn’t walking away empty-handed, though. Chamberlin said the credit union is giving her two days dividends on the $2.2 million, or about $125

Man … $125.00?  … is this really the price of honesty?
