The Mind is a Terrible Thing to Clutter
For the past 4 to 5 weeks or so, I’ve been having many of troubles falling asleep in a healthy and timely manner. Currently my days of work and nights of rest have collided into one long marathon of sleeplessness. Surprisingly all this is relatively easy to solve if I just de-clutter my mind. Recent obstacles thrown my way which include: finances, work and relationships (I have gone through a break-up), plague my mind like rain clouds covering a beautiful sunny sky. If my mind were a physical structural entity, it would be hard to navigate through because of all the clutter lying every where, my lack of sleep is possibly because I can’t find my damn bed, which lies under all the clutter.
So what do I have to do?
First.) let’s figure out the value and importance of the clutter that we have accumulated and become accustomed to walking over, instead of picking up and putting away or maybe even throwing away.
Second.) I found it best to write down 3 categories for the issues plaguing my mind, which include KEEP, IN PROGRESS, and THROW AWAY.
- KEEP – simply the things that we take for granted, such as our accomplishments, love for family/others, health etc …
- IN PROGRESS – under all the clutter you realize there are maybe long term and short term goals that you may have forgot about setting. The ones that are realistic in acheiving should be in this pile.
- THROW AWAY – obviously these are the little things and maybe big things that we hold on to that make life seem unbearable at times. All I can say about this pile is to just LET IT GO! Letting go is hard to do no matter what it is, but it frees up Soooo much space and you’ll be happier in the end.
Third.) take time to analyze your IN PROGRESS pile and attach a plan to the goals that you’ve set for yourself with the focus of eventually putting that in the KEEP pile.
Now I know we all operate in different ways and what may work for me, may not work for you. But as you see what I’ve done, it honestly just takes literally minutes or hours out of your life to make sure it’s a pleasant one. Please know the value of yourself is priceless, and any time dedicated to making yourself a better person should be an investment we all should partake in.
